As often, our basic freedoms--freedom of private association, in this case--only apply to people we agree with. Professor Wilkie believed that his political views would place an undue strain on this particular relationship. His email stating this was polite, not accusatory. He should be commended for his honesty, not reprimanded for having the temerity to be human.
