Jacob Levy has it exactly right:

"Roe took place when second-wave feminism and 'women's liberation' and the 'sexual revolution' were in full swing and deeply socially contentious and controversial. It came smack in the middle of the relevant culture war. Here, the relevant cultural shift has now happened. The cultural tipping point with regard to homosexuality has long since taken place. There remain committed and principled opponents of gay rights, of course. But Lawrence in 2003 doesn't play into a generally-felt crisis and anxiety the way Roe in 1973 did--or the way Lawrence in 1973 or 1986 or 1993 might have."
